ATO Online Security - Scams

Australian Taxation Office has noticed a spike in ATO scams directed to the general public. The latest being the Refund Scams which are hoax emails linked to a bogus ATO website where potential victims are requested to enter personal and credit card details. This bogus ATO website bears striking resemblance to the actual website with incredible tabs and options details.

If you receive such emails, do not click on the attachment as it is most likely a virus which will target your personal information. You can visit ATO's website to verify the authenticity of the email or contact their office on 13 28 61. As a general rule, the ATO does not normally ask for personal banking or credit card details.
