Clubs WA launches Victoria Bushfire Appeal

09 Feb 2009

Clubs WA has today launched an appeal to raise money for the victims of the devastating bushfires that have raged the past few days across many parts of Victoria.

Clubs WA Executive Director Peter Seaman said he expects many clubs will not only donate cash to the appeal, but will also send an appeal to their club members for donations.

“The devastation of this bushfire disaster is beyond comprehension. Too see so many victims left with only the clothes on their back is just such a helpless feeling. All we can do is rally the community together to help provide as much funding and assistance as possible.”

“I would hope that despite the uncertain economic times now facing Australia, that the community recognises the devastation of Australia’s worst ever bushfire disaster and digs deep.”

Money will be collected by Clubs WA and forwarded to the Red Cross, who are coordinating the Victorian Government’s disaster relief appeal. Clubs WA has today donated $5,000 to the appeal.

“The Red Cross is doing a fantastic job on the ground providing food, water and shelter as well as comfort to the victims, while the Country Fire Authority (CFA) continue to fight the fires.”

“I encourage all clubs to follow the lead of Clubs WA and donate whatever they can afford to this most worthy cause” Mr Seaman said.

Clubs have a long and strong history of supporting communities in times of crisis and I highly commend and support this appeal.
