On 15 August 2007 Telstra launched a nationwide $3 million grants program called Telstra Connection Seniors, aimed at encouraging older Australian to use mobile and internet technology to improve communication and social interaction.
$1 million will be available each year for the next three years to community organisations to run programs that equip their senior members with new skills such as connecting with other seniors' online, making video calls or sending text messages.
Many clubs are eligible to apply for the grants. To be eligible community organisations must be not-for-profit, incorporated, have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and have a membership base comprised primarily of seniors (over 60).
Clubs are eligible for Tier 1 Local Community Grants (ranging from $1,000 to $5,000). Club "Groups" (with more than one premise) are also eligible to apply for the State based grants (ranging from $5,000 to $50,000).
The application timetable is outlined in the table below:

Teaching materials will be available to develop education programs and those running the educational activities can elect to be paid for their time or donate that money to the organisation.
