Presenter 1 - Your Club Occupational, Safety & Health Compliance Responsibilities
WorkSafe WA Inspector, Jamie Cant, will present on common OSH issues and queries encountered by
WorkSafe in the Club industry, including what Inspectors are looking for when they go to a club; and
common OSH issues found at clubs and strategies to resolve/prevent them.
Presenter 2 - Workers' Compensation
Nexus Risk Services Workers Compensation Specialist, Kevin Burston will provide you with real life
club disasters and how to avoid them. Kevin will discuss workers compensation issues and the process
of getting people back to work, after an injury, accident or stress leave. This is your opportunity to ask
Kevin any of your questions relating to club workers compensation and volunteer liability.
Presenter 3 - Bullying Jurisdictions
Fair Work Commission will provide an overview of the Fair Work Commission’s anti-bullying jurisdiction including key definitions, how the Commission may deal with an application and what an order to stop bullying is.
Presenter 4 - The Effects of Mental Health on your Staff and Members
The Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) will work with you to better
understand how mental health plays a role in your club membership as well as staff, with a focus
on older mental health. Whether it’s a good or bad thing, as people grow older they sometimes get
content with doing things within the club as they have always been done; and older members may be
more resistant to changes you are making at the club and trying ne w things. WAAMH aims to help you
understand the resistance from particular groups of members, and how you might ‘de-escalate’ or better
manage these groups.
Presenter 5 - (Motivational Speaker) Workplace Culture and Cultural Change
To end the Forum, you will hear from motivational and inspirational speaker Neryl Joyce, who will
reinforce the day’s messages about creating a safe and healthy club culture. Through her tragic story
referencing leadership and adversity in a challenging environment, Neryl will reinforce the themes of
the day, including: resistance to change; work culture; and the dangers of doing something just because
that’s how it’s always been done.
