Campaign to Halve Excise Duty of Draught Beer

Campaign to Halve Excise Duty of Draught Beer

Clubs WA have been advised by our national body Clubs Australia that they are advocating to halve the excise duty on draught beer to support the industry’s recovery from COVID-19.

Clubs Australia is working with other national Associations to promote the campaign and engage with political stakeholders.  Member Clubs are encouraged to support the campaign by engaging with their local federal MP.

  • The excise has increased every six months since 1983 and is administered by the Australian Taxation Office.
  • The excise rate for full-strength draught beer is currently $37.76 per litre of alcohol, with the rate most recently increasing on 1 February 2022.
  • The excise on draught beer, along with other taxes such as GST, make up a sizeable part of beer prices, with alcohol in Australia taxed among the highest in the world.

After more that two years of COIVD-19 impacts – and ongoing economic challenges it is believed that halving the excise duty will encourage patrons to return to clubs and better support the industry’s recovery.
